Contrary to popular thinking, the eternal hope for followers of Christ is not that we get to “spend eternity in heaven.” The gospel hope is actually much greater! Romans 8 leads us to hope for that which we have not yet seen, when creation is liberated from futility and the redemption of our bodies. Immortal and imperishable bodies enjoying the new earth where God makes all things new. (Romans 8.18-25) October 15, 2023.

One worldview question we all must wrestle with is “Why is this world so broken?” Romans 8 provides the answers to this question with gospel depth. Not only is this world broken as the consequence of sin and the presence of the evil one, but God subjected creation to futility on purpose to lead sinners to salvation and to keep the redeemed hoping for that which is yet to come. Because we are in Christ, we have an obligation to put to death the deeds of the flesh BY THE SPIRIT. Just as we are justified by grace through faith, so are we sanctified by grace through faith. In this sermon, we discuss some practical advice from Puritan Pastor John Owen on how to mortify the flesh through the Spirit. (Romans 8.12-17) September 10, 2023

Romans 8 not only speaks of life in the Spirit, but it also definitively describes who we are in Christ. In Christ we are confident that the Spirit of God dwells in us, both in the Spirit even as the Spirit is in us, belonging to Christ, enjoying the applied righteousness of Christ, enjoying life even in this mortal body, and confident that our mortal bodies will be resurrected. This confidence of being “in the Spirit” gives us the foundation for the real “life in the Spirit” further described in Romans 8. (Romans 8.9-11) September 3, 2023

What exactly is “life in the Spirit”? Is it an emotion we feel during a worship service? Is it the expression of certain spiritual gifts? According to Romans 8, and Psalm 52, life in the Spirit is rooted in planting ourselves in His presence, trusting in His steadfast love, waiting for Him, and giving thanks to feed our faith. Why spend 16 weeks on one chapter of the Bible? Romans chapter 8 speaks more about the Holy Spirit than any other single chapter in the Bible, and it speaks to real, “life in the trenches” issues. But in order to discover “life in the Spirit,” we must first have the foundational truths about justification and sanctification as described in the first four verses. In Christ, both the penalty and power of sin is defeated. (Romans 8.1-4) August 13, 2023

Unfortunately, many Christians overlook the work of the Holy Spirit in their salvation. We are saved by the washing of regeneration of the Holy Spirit, or what Jesus called, being “born of the Spirit.” What does it mean to be born of the Spirit? Why do sinners need regeneration? What all is involved in the regeneration of the Holy Spirit? Why is this such good news? (Titus 3.1-15) August 6, 2023

What is the nature of the Christian faith? How does this short paragraph of Scripture from Titus help us to understand and explain who God is, what salvation means, what it means to follow Jesus, and where our hope lies? (Titus 2.11-15) July 23, 2023

As followers of Christ, in each and every life situation, we can either make the gospel of Jesus Christ look pretty or make it look ugly (Titus 2.1-10) July 16, 2023
