Romans 8 not only speaks of life in the Spirit, but it also definitively describes who we are in Christ. In Christ we are confident that the Spirit of God dwells in us, both in the Spirit even as the Spirit is in us, belonging to Christ, enjoying the applied righteousness of Christ, enjoying life even in this mortal body, and confident that our mortal bodies will be resurrected. This confidence of being “in the Spirit” gives us the foundation for the real “life in the Spirit” further described in Romans 8. (Romans 8.9-11) September 3, 2023

What exactly is “life in the Spirit”? Is it an emotion we feel during a worship service? Is it the expression of certain spiritual gifts? According to Romans 8, and Psalm 52, life in the Spirit is rooted in planting ourselves in His presence, trusting in His steadfast love, waiting for Him, and giving thanks to feed our faith. Why spend 16 weeks on one chapter of the Bible? Romans chapter 8 speaks more about the Holy Spirit than any other single chapter in the Bible, and it speaks to real, “life in the trenches” issues. But in order to discover “life in the Spirit,” we must first have the foundational truths about justification and sanctification as described in the first four verses. In Christ, both the penalty and power of sin is defeated. (Romans 8.1-4) August 13, 2023

Unfortunately, many Christians overlook the work of the Holy Spirit in their salvation. We are saved by the washing of regeneration of the Holy Spirit, or what Jesus called, being “born of the Spirit.” What does it mean to be born of the Spirit? Why do sinners need regeneration? What all is involved in the regeneration of the Holy Spirit? Why is this such good news? (Titus 3.1-15) August 6, 2023

What is the nature of the Christian faith? How does this short paragraph of Scripture from Titus help us to understand and explain who God is, what salvation means, what it means to follow Jesus, and where our hope lies? (Titus 2.11-15) July 23, 2023

As followers of Christ, in each and every life situation, we can either make the gospel of Jesus Christ look pretty or make it look ugly (Titus 2.1-10) July 16, 2023

The last written words of the apostle Paul seem like nothing more than a list of names, and it is that. He mentions 17 names in the last 14 verses of 2 Timothy. But the names, and the stories behind their names, paint a picture. And if we look past the names that we struggle to pronounce, we can let the apostle show us how to trust in the Lord when life gets tough. Paul followed in the steps of Jesus who prayed Psalm 22 on the cross, and in the lament psalms, we find one of God’s greatest gifts to His people as they trust Him through the trials of life. Paul repeatedly warned Timothy about the danger of myths. These were speculations that opposed the way God ordered and managed His creation, and they wandered away from the truth of God. While we often associate myths with stories of the Greek gods or fairy tales, modern day myths are still alive and well. These myths provide a foundation for what we believe about the world and how we live. What are some of these modern day myths, and how should Christians respond? (2 Timothy 4.1-8) June 25, 2023.

By what right does the apostle Paul call the “sacred writings” the breath of God? Why does he think the Scriptures are profitable for teaching, correction, and training in righteousness? Paul does not invent the doctrine of the inspiration of the Bible. Instead, he captures what the people of God, including Jesus, have always believed about the Living Word of God.
